OVERVIEW: The F17P is an export-configured, heavyweight torpedo developed by France in the mid-1980s for surface ship deployment. It features wire guidance and a 550 mm diameter, and was acquired by Saudi Arabia for use on its naval platforms.

DETAILS: Introduced around 1986, the F17P was based on the French domestic F17 torpedo design but adapted for foreign clients. It is electrically propelled, wire-guided, and employs passive or active/passive acoustic homing depending on variant. The torpedo is capable of targeting submarines and surface ships and is launched from NATO-standard 550 mm torpedo tubes. Saudi Arabia procured the F17P to arm selected surface combatants for anti-ship warfare.
